About this Experience

Join poet Ann Davenport and yoga instructor Kirsten Akens for “Pogatry \pō-gə-trē\” – a restorative series exploring the ways that language is rooted in the body.

The two-hour session consists of writing exercises, breath awareness/meditation, restorative yoga poses and discussion. The combination of yoga and writing nourishes body, mind and soul.

Please note, this is not an exercise yoga class; in restorative yoga, poses typically involve lying on a mat with specifically placed pillows, blankets and other props, and relaxing into a pose for 5-15 minutes at a time. Likewise, the writing prompts are designed for freewriting for 5-10 minutes in response to a specific idea or question, and you do not need to share what you’ve written.

Bring your favorite writing instrument, paper, and an eye pillow, mask or scarf.

As one of our (repeat) participants has said about this series: “Pogatry is a unique, very meaningful, and potent blend of mind/heart/soul (poetry) and body (yoga) in alignment with the rhythm of nature and seasons. For me, it’s been a sure recipe for self discovery and expression of new territory in my inner landscape.”
