About the Artist Facilitator

Betsy Wintermute is a fiber artist and book artist. She started exploring these media in the late 70’s and early 80’s taking advantage of learning opportunities as she moved across the country care of the USAF. She has taught these arts to children and adults for many years and most recently is teaching spinning and weaving for Textiles West. Come experience making yarn using a spinning wheel or hand spindle, creating Peruvian Sling braids, 3D Weaving using recycled boxes as looms, or Weaving belts and bands using an Inkle Loom. Her classes are for people of all ages.

About this Experience

Sling brands have been made by the people of the Andes for centuries. They are woven into garments, used as hair ties, and made into slings used for herding sheep and alpacas. Come explore how these braids are made and make some yourself. Future sessions will be held in November and December.

About this Experience

Are you curious about Weaving but don’t want to invest in large pieces of equipment? Come experience 3D Weaving using small recycled boxes. This is the perfect project to make small woven containers or bags. Over four sessions students will learn to warp and weave their boxes to create containers. This is a 4-session Experience (each of the four sessions is 2 hours in duration). Come join the fun! Future sessions will be held in December.

Introduction to Spinning Yarn

About this Experience

Spinning is often said to be an almost meditative past time. This experience allows the student to explore the creation of yarn using a variety of different animal fibers over three weeks using a spinning wheel or hand spindle. Beginning or intermediate spinning students will find something to learn here. Youth and adults will benefit most from this experience. This is a 3-session Experience (each of the three sessions is 3 hours in duration). This Experience will be held again in November and the first week of December.
